Shepherd’s Gate is an NGO (non-governmental organization) founded in 2018 whose purpose is to partner with local communities to mobilize sustainable community transformation through programs that empower families to rise up and care for themselves and the children in their care. This ministry focuses on the physical, spiritual and emotional care and development of vulnerable and orphaned children and older youth who have been disadvantaged due to losing one or both parents, or because of their guardian’s or family’s lack of resources. Shepherd’s Gate conducts programs and projects in and around Kasanje, in the Greater Entebbe area in Uganda.
Maintaining strong family bonds is important to Shepherd’s Gate, so most children in the program live with their extended families or guardians. Shepherd’s Gate supports these families in several ways: food supplements, health education, medical care for children, clothing, projects for economic development, and gospel outreach programs.
Education in Uganda is not free, so Shepherd’s Gate works with the local schools to assist the guardians in paying the tuition and fees required for students to continue their education.
Shepherd’s Gate partners with local churches and organizations in sponsoring a number of projects to address the needs of under-resourced families in the neighborhood. These projects include growing and providing food, demonstrating gardening practices to neighbors, encouraging and coordinating the donation of needed clothing and household items, as well as assessing community needs and identifying resources to help.
In 2019, Shepherd’s Gate built a children’s care center, dug a well for clean water, and now have land to grow food to be used for the Centre as well as those in need in the neighborhood. This property also serves as a community center, hosting local gatherings to share the gospel, demonstrate economic practices, create awareness of healthy practices, and provide access to medical screenings.
The Children’s Centre cares for children that do not have families or guardians who are able to care for them. Shepherd’s Gate provides a loving home, medical care, clothing, school fees, and Christ Centered teaching for the children in their direct care. It is so important to give these children a foundation of love, dignity, and hope. The primary goal has been to help children find their hope in a relationship with Jesus Christ, to grow in their faith and character, and be useful in Christ’s Kingdom.
You can be a partner in this ministry by contributing to the financial needs of Shepherd’s Gate -
